Not Helpful, Pat, Not Helpful

By now Pat Robertson's comment about an 18th century Haitian pact with the devil is old news, but I think it bears repeating what a rotten, unhelpful, and frankly, unchristian thing that was to say.  It would be bad enough at any time, given Haiti's near constant state of tragedy, but in the aftermath of such an overwhelming disaster, it seems especially thoughtless and pointless - unless the point is to be cruel.

I could go on, but I think this blog post from my minister (one of the sharpest guys behind the pulpit in my experience)  says it well and better than anything I could write. For those interested in contributing, the World Food Programme allows you to make Haiti-specific donations.  Please consider giving at least a few bucks.

A Billion for A Billion

Evidently the number of hungry people in the world has moved past one billion.  With respect to Sam Kinison, it's cheaper to feed people where they are.  Towards that end, I made a contribution to the World Food Programme. 

Yes, some of your tax dollars do go to the U.N. (WFP is a UN agency) already, but who knows how much actually gets put to work feeding the hungry?  Here is an opportunity to directly make a difference.  I did a quick Google search - hereafter referred to as "extensive research" on this blog - and could not find any glaring issues with corruption at WFP, so I think you can contribute and feel good about it.
